Club Deportivo Chivas USA News Release

CARSON, Calif. (Monday, July 14, 2008) - Santos Laguna, the reigning champion of the Mexican First Division, will arrive today in Los Angeles before facing Chivas USA on the second matchday of Group B of SuperLiga 2008. A shot at a million dollar winner's prize is on the line for both teams in the must-win game, which will take place this Wednesday, July 16, at 7:00 p.m. PT at The Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif.

Led by experienced Mexico international goalkeeper Oswaldo Sánchez, Mexican National Team player Fernando Arce and lethal striker Vicente Matías Vuoso - as well as former Chivas USA players Johnnie García and Jorge Barrera - Santos Laguna will arrive at Los Angeles International Airport at approximately 4:43 p.m. PT, after American Airlines flight 725 was delayed coming out of Boston. Santos' Monday training schedule is TBD upon the team's arrival.

Santos is scheduled to train Tuesday morning at 9:00 a.m. on The Home Depot Center's University Field 2, while Chivas USA is scheduled to train at 10:00 a.m. on either Field 4 or Field 6 (contact Chivas USA Communications for updates). Both teams' morning training sessions are expected to last approximately one hour. Santos will also train on Tuesday evening on The Home Depot Center's Main Stadium field, at 5:30 p.m.

Wednesday's match is do-or-die for both teams, as Santos fell 1-0 to the New England Revolution on Sunday in their Group B opener, while Chivas USA fell 2-1 to reigning SuperLiga champions Pachuca in the Red-and-White's debut official international competition. The Red-and-White is looking to qualify out of a difficult Group B that includes Pachuca, Santos, and the Revolution. Group A consists of the Houston Dynamo and D.C. United of Major League Soccer, and Chivas de Guadalajara and Atlante from the Mexican First Division. The top two teams from each group advance to the semifinals of the second annual tournament between teams from Mexico and the United States, in which the winner will walk away with a million-dollar first prize.
