Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release

San Jose, CA - Andres Santiago won his second straight outing, as the Quakes won their second straight contest, downing the San Jose Giants by a score of 4-1 on Sunday evening in San Jose.

Santiago (5-3) allowed just one run on three hits over seven innings, with his only blemish being a solo shot allowed to San Jose's Dan Burkhart. Santiago came within one of his career strikeout-high, as he punched out 10 hitters in the win.

The Quakes gave Santiago some support in the fourth, thanks to a pair of long-balls. C.J. Retherford ripped the first pitch of his at-bat over the fence in left-field, his team-leading 20th of the year, a three-run shot for a 3-0 Rancho lead. Bobby Coyle followed later in the inning with an opposite-field shot, his fourth to give the Quakes a 4-0 advantage over San Jose starter Seth Rosin (2-1).

Burkhart's second homer of the year put the Giants on the board in the bottom of the fifth, but that's as close as they'd get.

Steve Smith worked a scoreless eighth and Eric Eadington worked around a two-out walk in the ninth, firing a scoreless frame to log his 14th save.

Rancho (8-10, 45-43) will look for a three-game sweep on Monday night, sending Garrett Gould (2-6) to the mound against San Jose lefty Ryan Bradley (4-4). Game time on Monday is 7:00pm.

On Wednesday, July 11th, the Quakes return to The Epicenter for a three-game home stand against Inland Empire. Dodgers' rehabbing outfielder Andre Ethier is slated to play in his first of what is scheduled to be two rehab starts for the Quakes on Wednesday, which is another Terra Vista Animal Hospital Bark in the Ballpark, as fans are invited to bring their four-legged friends to The Epicenter. Tickets are available by calling (909) 481-5000 or online at rcquakes.com. Go Quakes!
