BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The NBA D-League Champion Santa Cruz Warriors (3-2) fell to the Bakersfield Jam (2-3) 113-105 on Tuesday night at the Dignity Health Event Center.
Santa Cruz's Elliot Williams notched a season-high 33 points, 11 rebounds, and 7 assists, as Darington Hobson also recorded a double-double with 24 points and 10 rebounds. Daniel Orton posted 17 points, while Jarred Shaw added 10 points.
The Jam was paced by Earl Clark who posted a team-high 33 points and 7 rebounds. Xavier Munford recorded 24 points on an 11-of-17 shooting effort, while Terrico White added 20 for Bakersfield.
Santa Cruz would get off to a slow start, with the Jam quickly sharpshooting their way to an early double-digit lead in the opening frame. Bakersfield would lead by as many as 15 points in the first half, before Santa Cruz rallied back to cut the deficit to 6 heading into the break.
The Warriors would continue to stay within striking distance of the Jam in the third behind an explosive 16-point quarter from Darington Hobson. The Warriors would begin the fourth quarter with 15-4 run, snatching the lead for the first time in the game. The final frame was a tightly-contested battle, complete with 4 lead changes and 2 ties. Bakersfield would come out on top, as Santa Cruz's fourth quarter rally was not enough to overcome the Jam.
The Santa Cruz Warriors will host a weekend doubleheader against the visiting Austin Spurs beginning Friday at 7:00 p.m. PST at Kaiser Permanente Arena. Fans can catch the game on the NBA D-League's YouTube channel, via www.santacruzbasketball.com or on KOTR Channel 11, or Channel 187 in Santa Cruz on Comcast.
