Cleveland Charge News Release
The Canton Charge (1-3), presented by SecureData 365 and powered by the Cleveland Cavaliers, defeated the Fort Wayne Mad Ants (3-2), 107-87, claiming their first win on the 2015-2016 campaign. The Charge have now won three straight regular season games versus their divisional foe.
In the first of six matchups this season, Fort Wayne struck first by opening the game on a 5-0 run. The Charge settled in as Michael Stockton had a strong start to the game, scoring six first quarter points while dishing out three assists. Charge forward Nick Minnerath picked up where he left off after a strong showing in Saturday's loss to Westchester, connecting on 2-of-3 shots for six points in the first. Fort Wayne's Terran Petteway displayed his skills from the perimeter, pacing the Mad Ants with seven first quarter points. After a back-and-forth affair for most of the first 12 minutes of play, the Mad Ants closed the quarter just as they started, on a 5-0 run, to take a 25-16 lead into the second period.
Trailing 36-27 midway through the second, the Charge engineered a 17-3 run over 5:15 to take a 44-39 lead with 1:52 remaining. A pair of Quinn Cook free throws right before the horn gave the Charge a 48-43 advantage heading into the break. Milwaukee Bucks' assignee Damien Inglis, acquired by the Charge via the Flexible Assignment Rule, impressed early in his Charge debut with nine first half points on 4-of-7 shooting.
The Charge's momentum carried over into the third period on the heels of an all-around team defensive effort. The Charge held Fort Wayne to 29% shooting on 6-of-21 attempts in the third. As the defense picked up, so did the play of Charge forward Juvonte Reddic. Reddic provided a spark off the bench with nine third quarter points on a perfect 4-of-4 from the field. Cook complimented Reddic's play with nine third quarter points of his own while dishing out three assists in the quarter. After a 12-0 run with a strong interior presence, the Charge outscored Fort Wayne 31-19 in the third, pushing their lead to 79-62 entering the fourth.
The Charge maintained control of the game throughout the fourth quarter, getting ahead by as many as 20 and never less than 11. Cook and Dunigan proved to be a formidable duo, combining for 17 fourth quarter points to help put the Fort Wayne Mad Ants away, 107-87.
Cook had a game-high 26 points and nine assists with five rebounds in 42 minutes of action. Dunigan chipped in 23 points, seven rebounds, and two blocked shots in 28 minutes. Reddic added 16 points on 7-of-11 from the field in 20 minutes of relief. Damien Inglis provided 14 points and five rebounds in his Charge debut. Canton outrebounded Fort Wayne 53-34.
Fort Wayne was paced by forward C.J. Fair's 19 points and nine rebounds on 7-of-14 shooting. Reserve guard Walter Lemon Jr. chipped in with 14 points off the bench. Rakeem Christmas added 13 points, six rebounds, and three blocks in 27 minutes.
