
Santa Cruz Warriors Win on the Road in Iowa

DES MOINES, Iowa - The Santa Cruz Warriors defeated the Iowa Energy 109-106 Wednesday night, snapping a four-game road losing streak.
The Santa Cruz Warriors were led by Cameron Jones, who scored a season-high 21 points. Chris Johnson and Taylor Griffin each finished with 15, while Daniel Nwaelele scored 13 off the bench. Darington Hobson dished out a game-high 6 assists and added 8 points.
Six Iowa Energy players scored in double figures, including Morris Almond, who had a game-high 24 points. Darius Miller, on assignment from the New Orleans Hornets, chipped in with 14 points, while Quincy Miller recorded the only double-double of the night with 15 points and 10 rebounds.
Santa Cruz led by as much as 16 with 1:04 left in the first half, but Iowa closed in throughout the second half. The Energy came within one point twice within the last 2:07 to play, but each time Moe Baker hit two free throws to extend the Warriors' lead. The Energy had possession at the end of the game, but Darington Hobson blocked a Paul Harris three-pointer to put the Warriors in the win column.
Santa Cruz held the slight edge on field goal shooting percentage (48.3%-46.7%) and rebounds (37-36). The Warriors outscored the Energy in the paint 52-44.
The Santa Cruz Warriors return home with a win and will face off against the Los Angeles D-Fenders on Friday at 7:00 p.m. at the Kaiser Permanente Arena. Friday's game is already sold out, but tickets are still available at www.santacruzbasketball.com for Sunday's game against the Erie BayHawks and Monday's game against Western Division-rival Bakersfield Jam.
