
Santa Cruz Warriors Win Nail-Biter against Erie

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. - The Santa Cruz Warriors defeated the Erie BayHawks 96-95 Sunday night in a game that came down to the final play.
The Santa Cruz Warriors were led by Jeremy Tyler, on assignment from the Golden State Warriors, who scored 15 points and grabbed seven rebounds. Cameron Jones scored 13, as well as Taylor Griffin, who was two rebounds away from a double-double. Stefhon Hannah dished out a game-high 11 assists, while Mickell Gladness and Darington Hobson each blocked two shots.
Henry Sims led the Erie BayHawks with a double-double, scoring a game-high 22 points and 12 boards. D.J. Kennedy also recorded a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds.
The Erie BayHawks led by as much as 11 with 3:57 left in the second quarter, but the Warriors cut the deficit to two by halftime. It remained close throughout the third with each team trading buckets, but the Warriors inched away and held their largest lead of the game with nine points early in the fourth. The BayHawks had one last shot to win the game with 4.4 seconds left, but D.J. Kennedy missed and the put-back was off the mark.
The BayHawks out-rebounded the Warriors 48-42 and held the slight advantage on field goal shooting percentage 47.6%-45.8%. Erie had 27 assists, while the Warriors had 25 compared to just 11 turnovers.
The Santa Cruz Warriors will play one more home game tomorrow when the Bakersfield Jam return to Kaiser Permanente Arena for a battle for first place in the West Division.
