
Santa Cruz Warriors Drop Back-And-Forth Affair to Texas Legends, 99-105

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. - The Santa Cruz Warriors, the NBA G League affiliate of the Golden State Warriors, incurred their third straight loss in February to the Texas Legends, 99-105, tonight at Kaiser Permanente Arena. Tonight's back-and-forth affair featured a season-high 25 lead changes, which surpassed the previous high mark of 19 that occurred the last time these two teams met on November 21 in Frisco, Texas.
Golden State Warriors Guard Patrick McCaw, who was assigned to Santa Cruz earlier today, led the team with 22 points, eight rebounds and two steals. Forward Terrence Jones also reached the 20-point plateau (9-16 FG) to go along with nine rebounds, five assists and two thefts. Warriors two-way guard Quinn Cook led the team in assists for the 13th straight game with 7 dishes to go along with 19 points.
Texas guard Donald Sloan led all scorers with 34 points (11-21 FG) and center Jameel Warney with 27 points and 12 rebounds, with the two dominating play in the fourth quarter. Reserve forward J.J. Avila scored 15 points to go along with seven rebounds and five assists, and recorded a game-high +15 in his 33 minutes of action.
Texas drove ahead to a 31-23 first quarter lead by capitalizing on seven Santa Cruz turnovers to score 14 points. J.J Avila led the charge by scoring 12 points on 5-of-6 shooting in the opening period. Santa Cruz responded with a 10-0 run to start the second quarter, thanks to McCaw (9 points) and Terrence Jones (7 points) scoring the majority of the team's points, but Sloan ended the period with six straight points to give Texas a four point edge, 51-47.
In the third quarter, Santa Cruz grew their lead to as many as seven thanks to Cook's nine points (4-5 FG) while holding the Legends to 8-25 shooting from the field (35%). In the final frame, Sloan and Warney combined for 24 of Texas' 32 points and bullied Santa Cruz to a 14-6 rebounding advantage, including four crucial grabs to take the lead for good with 2 minutes remaining.
The Santa Cruz Warriors will return to action Sunday night at Kaiser Permanente Arena against the Pacific Division-leading South Bay Lakers (tip-off 6:00 p.m.).
