Santa Cruz Warriors Defeated by Reno Bighorns in Lone Preseason Game

SANTA CRUZ, Calif - The Santa Cruz Warriors were defeated by the Reno Bighorns 128-126 Tuesday night in their lone Preseason Game at Kaiser Permanente Arena.

Santa Cruz was led by Elliot Williams, who scored 26 points and had nine assists in his first game as a Warrior. Joe Alexander scored 22 points and recorded 9 rebounds, while Carrick Felix logged 17 points and 7 rebounds. Sean Kilpatrick added 15 points, while Mychel Thompson chipped in with 14.

Reno was paced by Tajuan Porter, who led all scorers with 29 points. Brady Heslip and Andrew Warren scored 18 points a piece, while David Stockton scored 15. Sacramento Kings assignee, Eric Moreland, and Ra'shad James both recorded double-doubles with 15 points and 11 rebounds and 14 points and 10 rebounds, respectively.

The Warriors and Bighorns were tied 121-121 at the end of regulation forcing overtime play. With 36 seconds remaining in overtime, Carrick Felix was fouled on a 3 point attempt and made all 3 free throws to tie the game 126-126. With 10 seconds left on the clock, Ra'shad James made a lay-up to put the Bighorns up 2. The Warriors were unable answer after a missed jumpshot by Alexander and a missed layup by Watt with 2.3 seconds left in overtime.

The Warriors shot 54.9% from the field compared to the Bighorns' 36.4%. Reno committed fewer turnovers (23-39) and had more steals (19-8).

The Santa Cruz Warriors commence their opening night home stand this Friday for the first game of a back-to-back against the Los Angeles D-fenders at 7:00 p.m. Pacific.
