Santa Cruz Sweeps Vipers in Weekend Double-Header

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. - The Santa Cruz Warriors swept the Rio Grande Valley Vipers in a double-header this weekend. After edging the Vipers 131-121 Friday night, the Warriors came back Sunday and clinched the rematch in a116-107 victory.

Santa Cruz got a quick start, going up 6-0 in the first quarter in just under three minutes. Guard Elliot Williams paced the Warriors, collecting a season-high 33 points, 9 rebounds, and 9 assists. James Michael McAdoo notched his second consecutive double-double, scoring 18 points and 12 rebounds. Sean Kilpatrick knocked down 19 points, going 8 of 13 from the field, while Joe Alexander also recorded his second consecutive double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds.

Despite shooting 39.1% from the field, the Vipers saw six players score in double figures. Akeem Richmond and Tyrone White led the way for Rio Grande Valley, scoring 20 points apiece. Akil Mitchell, Clint Capela, and Gary Talton all recorded double-doubles, with Talton dishing out a game-high 17 assists.

The Warriors shot 49.5% from the field compared to the Vipers' 39.1%, while edging the team in rebounds (55-52), blocks (11-7), and assists (32-25). The Vipers has more fast break points (20-15), second chance points (22-12), more points in the paint (62-52), and made more three-point shots (12-7).

The Santa Cruz Warriors will travel to Los Angeles on Friday to take on theD-Fenders (1-7) at 7:00 p.m. Pacific.
