
Sanford Uses Huge Second Inning in Blowout of Winnipesaukee

SANFORD, Maine - The Sanford Mainers played the Winnipesaukee Muskrats on Wednesday night at Goodall Park. After a 10-run explosion in the second inning, the Mainers rolled past the Muskrats to a 14-4 win.
Louis Stallone (Arkansas) started his first game of the year for Sanford and turned in one of his best performances of the season. In a season-high four innings, Stallone also set a season-high in strikeouts with five, only allowing one walk, one hit and no runs.
The offensive barrage started in the second inning, when Sanford scored ten runs on nine hits and sent 16 batters to the plate. Highlights in the inning included an RBI single from Evan Sleight (Rutgers), a two-run double by Cam Ridley (Eastern Kentucky), back-to-back home runs from Dayne Leonard (West Virginia) and Freddy Rojas Jr. (UT-Rio Grande Valley), as well as an RBI single by Ryan Turenne (Maine).
The bullpen helped the cause as well as Spencer Hill (Northern Illinois) and Beau Dana (Dickinson) pitched no-hit innings of relief with two and three strikeouts respectively. Jacob Ciccone (Lafayette) threw two innings and struck out four, with Gavin Hinchliffe (Delaware) earning the win with two strikeouts in the ninth.
The Mainers added more runs in the sixth inning with another RBI single by Turenne, and a sacrifice fly off the bat of Jonny Barditch (Utah). Derek Smith (Bryant) came off the bench to drive in another run in his pinch-hit appearance, and finish off a 14-4 win.
The Sanford Mainers are on the road for the next two days for one game against the Keene SwampBats on Thursday, and a doubleheader against the North Adams SteepleCats on Friday.
