Sanford Mainers News Release
SANFORD, Maine - After sweeping their way through the quarterfinal round of the 2023 New England League Postseason, the Sanford Mainers are set to host the Bristol Blues in a best-of-three series beginning Thursday evening at Goodall Park.
Sanford, who entered the playoffs as the fifth seed, knocked off the fourth-seeded Mystic Schooners with wins on Monday and Tuesday. The first game, which was held at Dodd Stadium, finished 11-6 in favor of the Mainers before a late-inning rally gave them a 2-1 victory at home in game two.
Bristol, who entered the playoffs as the sixth seed, battled back against the third-seeded Valley Blue Sox after falling in a 13-inning affair in game one of their quarterfinal matchup. The Blues came back to win the series with a shutout victory on Tuesday and a dominating 10-3 win on Wednesday.
The Mainers and Blues played three times in the regular season with the home team winning all three of the matchups. Bristol won game one on a walk-off fielder's choice back on June 22, but four days later the Mainers had their own walk-off win after an infield single by Devan Bade (Binghamton) turned into more with two errors that allowed Bade to come all the way around to score.
The Blues took the final game of the season series, which came as the season finale for both teams on Sunday, July 30, by a score of 5-0.
Game one starts at 6:30 p.m. at Goodall Park on Thursday prior to game two being played at Muzzy Field on Friday evening. If necessary, the series will return to Sanford for a decisive game three on Saturday night.
The winner of the series moves on to play the winner of the other Final Four matchup between the Newport Gulls and Danbury Westerners in the Championship Series.
