
Sanford Splits Doubleheader in Laconia against Winnipesaukee

LACONIA, N.H. - The Sanford Mainers played a doubleheader on Saturday at Robbie Mills Park in Laconia. The Mainers was able to win the first game by a score of 7-5, and the Muskrats took the second game with a 2-1 win.
Josh Joy (Southern Maine) started the opener for Sanford and limited baserunners to give the Mainers a shot at the win. After pitching perfect through the first eight hitters and giving up no hits until the fourth, Joy finished with four innings of work, only giving up two hits, two earned runs, no walks and five strikeouts.
The Mainers took the lead early in the first inning with Cam Ridley (Eastern Kentucky) and Cal Hewett (Vanderbilt) scoring on a single by Pierce Gallo (Clemson). Later in the game Marty Higgins (St. John's) brought home a run on a groundout and Hewett doubled in Ridley. Three more runs in the seventh inning was enough to complete the 7-5 win.
In the nightcap of the doubleheader, the Mainers were able to get the first run again. Evan Sleight (Rutgers) scored on an error to open a 1-0 lead.
Matt Aronson (UMass) started the game for Sanford, and didn't give up a hit until the fourth inning. He pitched to contact well in 4.1 innings, only giving up two hits, two earned runs, one walk and one strikeout.
Offense was limited for Sanford in the second game, as it only could muster two hits in the seven innings.
Winnipesaukee scored two runs in the fourth inning on an RBI groundout and sacrifice fly on two straight hitters. The Muskrats were able to hold on for the 2-1 win to split the doubleheader.
The Sanford Mainers aren't in action again until Wednesday for a road game against Upper Valley Nighthawks.
