Charlotte Knights News Release

(UPTOWN CHARLOTTE, NC) - Carlos Sanchez -- who is currently leading the International League with an impressive .407 batting average through 20 games -- was named as the IL Batter of the Week for the period of April 27-May3, as announced by the International League of Professional Baseball Clubs, Inc. this morning. Sanchez earns the IL honor for the second time already this season. He was named IL Batter of the Week for the period ending April 13-19 after hitting .536 over that six-game stretch.

A native of Maracay, VE, Sanchez had a remarkable week at BB&T Ballpark during the team's seven-game homestand. He hit .484 (15-for-31) with seven runs scored, five doubles, two home runs, seven RBIs, and three stolen bases (seven games). On Friday, he went a perfect 5-for-5 at the plate -- becoming the first Knights player to accomplish that feat since Ray Olmedo did so on July 17, 2012. A night later, he went a perfect 4-for-4 with two home runs (one from each side of the plate) and a career-high seven RBIs. Sanchez reached base in 10-straight plate appearances and had a hit in nine-straight over the course of that two-day span.

The 22-year-old slick-fielding infielder is currently first in batting average (.407), first in hits (37), first in total bases (53), tied for first in doubles (10), tied for first in extra-base hits (12), and fourth in slugging percentage (.582). He has hit safely in 18 of 20 games he's played in this season with the Charlotte Knights.

Originally signed by the Chicago White Sox as a free agent on May 6, 2009, Sanchez owns a career .290 batting average over seven Minor League seasons (517 games). He hit .293 (128-for-437) with 60 runs scored, 19 doubles, six triples, seven home runs, and 57 RBIs for the Knights last season in 110 games. He led the 2014 Knights in triples and stolen bases (16).

Sanchez and the first place Charlotte Knights will open a six-game road trip starting in Columbus, OH on Tuesday. Pre-game radio coverage of Tuesday's opener against the Columbus Clippers is set for 6:20 p.m. on ESPN Radio 730 AM and online at www.charlotteknights.com. The "Voice of the Charlotte Knights" Matt Swierad will have the call for all of the action.
