May 4, 2015 - International League (IL1) News Release

The International League announced today that Charlotte second baseman Carlos Sanchez and Indianapolis pitcher Adrian Sampson have been named the League's Batter and Pitcher of the Week for the period from April 27-May 3. Sanchez is being recognized for the second time in three weeks, making the Knights the first IL team to claim multiple weekly awards in the 2015 season. Prior to Sampson, the last member of the Indians to be so honored was pitcher Brandon Cumpton (July 14-20, 2014).

CARLOS SANCHEZ, Charlotte Knights IL BATTER OF THE WEEK

Carlos Sanchez hit .484 over the past seven days and led the International League with 15 hits, seven extra-base hits, five doubles, 26 total bases, seven runs scored, three stolen bases, and two home runs. Beginning with Wednesday night's matchup against Toledo, Sanchez collected multiple hits in five straight games, including a remarkable 5-for-5 performance on Friday against Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. He may have topped that effort the very next night when he went 4-for-4 with a pair of home runs and 7 RBI in a 10-4 thumping of the RailRiders. On Friday evening, Indians right-hander Adrian Sampson picked up his first win of the year in dominating fashion. Sampson went 7.0 innings for the first time this season, needing just 75 pitches to do so. He allowed only four hits and a walk while striking out seven to lead the Indians to an impressive 4-0 shutout win over Lehigh Valley. The victory was Sampson's first this season despite owning an ERA of just 2.45. For the season he is 2nd in the League with 31 strikeouts and 5th with 29.1 innings pitched. 23-year-old Adrian Sampson is in his fourth season as a professional pitcher.
