San Jose's Wagner Tabbed Ironman of the Month

SAN JOSE, Calif. (May 1, 2003) - San Jose SaberCats' WR/DB Barry Wagner was today named the Arena Football League's Ironman of the Month for April.

Wagner (6-3, 218, Alabama A&M), who is in his 12th AFL season, led San Jose (9-4) on both sides of the ball during April. The former Bulldog became the first player in AFL history to record 100 career rushing touchdowns, effectively rushing for 36 yards and seven scored on 14 carries. He also collected 17 receptions for 126 yards and one touchdown and totaled 174 yards on nine kick returns (19.3 yard average) during the month.

Defensively, the six-time Ironman of the Year became the first player to reach 600.0 career tackles by totaling 21.5 during the month. He also added four pass breakups and an interception (41, No. 3 all-time) to help to keep the SaberCats' defense together during their 2-2 run in April.

This marks the first time Wagner has earned a monthly honor.

The SaberCats entertain the Grand Rapids Rampage on Saturday, May 3, at HP Pavilion.
