
San Jose Signs QB Daft

SAN JOSE, Calif. (April 17, 2003) - Quarterback Kevin Daft, a fifth round draft pick of the Tennessee Titans and a former All-American at UC Davis, signed with the World Champion San Jose SaberCats, announced general Manager Terry Malley.
The SaberCats also signed former San Francisco 49ers lineman Menson Holloway to their practice squad and released quarterbacks Bob Bees and Johnny Turman..
Daft (6-2, 215) was the 151st player selected in the 1999 NFL Draft and was Tennessee's third quarterback on its Super Bowl team that year. He has also spent time in the San Diego Chargers and San Francisco 49ers organizations.
A Division II MVP finalist his senior year at UC Davis, Daft set career records in passing yards, 300-yard games, attempts, completions, touchdowns and total offense. He led the Aggies to consecutive playoff appearances and threw at least on touchdown pass in each of his final 18 games.
Holloway (6-3, 280) was a 6th round pick (191st overall) of the 49ers out of UTEP in the 2001 NFL Draft. He spent the entire season between the team's practice squad and active roster.
Daft will backup Mark Grieb when the SaberCats host the Indiana Firebirds Saturday, April 19. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m. Tickets for that game and all remaining home games at HP Pavilion are available and can be purchased through all Northern California TicketMaster outlets and at the HP Pavilion box office.
