San Jose Earthquakes News Release
SAN JOSE, Calif. - The San Jose Earthquakes play host to the Columbus Crew this Saturday, May 19. Kickoff at Buck Shaw Stadium in Santa Clara is slated for 7:30 p.m. PT. The match will air live locally on Comcast SportsNet California, 1590 KLIV (English) and 1370 KZSF (Spanish).
The Earthquakes (7-2-2, 23 pts.) are off to their best 11-game start in club history and occupy the second spot in the MLS Western Conference standings. They trail only Real Salt Lake (8-3-2, 26 pts.) by three points, with two games in hand. Seattle Sounders FC (7-2-1, 22 pts.) are right behind in third-place with one fewer game played than San Jose.
The Columbus Crew (3-4-2, 11 pts.) are in eighth-place in the 10-team Eastern Conference, and are fresh off of a come-from-behind 2-1 win over FC Dallas on Saturday in Columbus.
The Quakes have not lost in five matches (4-0-1) at Buck Shaw this season, and are unbeaten in their last eight (6-0-2) in their regular home venue dating back to August of 2011. They are second in MLS with 22 goals scored, and lead the league with 25 assists and a goal differential of +10.
San Jose forward Chris Wondolowski is atop the Budweiser Golden Boot race with 11 goals and needs just two more strikes for No. 50 in an Earthquakes uniform.
San Jose and Columbus are two of the 10 original sides from the inaugural 1996 MLS season. Saturday night's match will also pit Quakes starters Jon Busch and Steven Lenhart against their former club. Busch and Lenhart began their MLS careers with the Crew in 2002 and 2008, respectively.
