San Diego Wave FC News Release

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - San Diego Wave FC will play in the club's second consecutive home match to kick off the 2023 NWSL season this Saturday, April 1 at 7:00 p.m. PT The club, which recently earned three points in a hard-fought match against the Chicago Red Stars in front of 30,804 fans, will host North Carolina Courage at Snapdragon Stadium. The match will be broadcast live on Paramount+.

In the home opener, the Wave and Red Stars provided back-and-forth action for the record-setting crowd with five total goals in the match. Following a Chicago goal, San Diego responded with two goals in ten minutes from Amirah Ali and Jaedyn Shaw. The first half would end in a 2-2 draw; however, it would be a penalty kick in the 89th minute that would secure the home victory. Forward Alex Morgan stepped up to convert the penalty and San Diego would close out the match to earn the home opener win.

San Diego hosts the Courage with a 1-0-1 all-time record, who are led by head coach Sean Nahas. In 2022, just one goal was scored between the two clubs, as Alex Morgan secured the win on the road, while the two teams battled out to a 0-0 draw to end the regular season. To start off the 2023 campaign, North Carolina hosted Kansas City Current and earned a 1-0 victory off midfielder Millie Gejil's 23rd minute goal.
