San Diego Wave FC Signs Goalkeeper Lauren Brzykcy

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - San Diego Wave Fútbol Club announced today that the club has signed goalkeeper Lauren Brzykcy ahead of the upcoming season. Brzykcy signed a two-year deal with the club running through 2024.
"Lauren has shown at training this preseason that she is ready to take this next step in her career," said San Diego Wave FC Head Coach Casey Stoney. "We've been impressed with her ability to learn and adapt, and we believe she will continue to gain valuable experience in our competitive environment."
Brzykcy, a San Clemente, Calif. native, played at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) from 2017-22, where she made 77 appearances (74 starts) for the Bruins. The 5'10" goalkeeper led the Bruins to the 2022 National Championship in her final season at UCLA, where she recorded 73 saves and led the Pac-12 with 14 shutouts. A Pac-12 All-Freshman, Brzykcy also earned Pac-12 Goalkeeper of the Year (2020), second-team All-Pacific Regional and All-Pac-12 honors (2021-2022) and first-team All-Pacific Region honors (2022) during her tenure at UCLA.
"I am absolutely ecstatic to have signed my first professional contract with the San Diego Wave," Brzykcy said. "It's a dream come true for me, and I'm grateful for the opportunity to play with such talented players and pursue my passion at the highest level. I can't wait to represent this team, community and fans and wear the crest with pride!"
Wave FC will open its 2023 campaign on Saturday, March 25, at Snapdragon Stadium. Scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m. PT, the match against the Chicago Red Stars kicks off the Wave's first full season at the all-new Snapdragon Stadium.
