
San Diego Wave FC Selects Three Players in 2023 NWSL Draft

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - San Diego Wave Fútbol Club selected three players in today's 2023 NWSL Draft. San Diego picked midfielder Sierra Enge (13th overall) in the second round, goalkeeper Lauren Brzykcy (33rd overall) in the third round and midfielder Giovanna DeMarco (45th overall) in the fourth round.
In a draft-day trade, San Diego acquired the No. 13 pick overall from NJ/NY Gotham FC in exchange for $100,000 in funded allocation money.
Enge, 22, is a Cardiff, Calif., native and played at Stanford University from 2019-2022. While at Stanford, Enge appeared in 79 games (57 starts), tallying five goals and 13 assists, while helping them win three Pac-12 titles and one NCAA Championship. The midfielder earned Pac-12 Scholar-Athlete of the Year (2022), United Soccer Coaches All-Region third team (2021) and United Soccer Coaches All-Region second team (2020-21).
Brzykcy, a goalkeeper from San Clemente, Calif., played at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) from 2017-22, where she made 77 appearances (74 starts) for the Bruins. The 5'10" goalkeeper led the Bruins to win the 2022 National Championship in her final year at UCLA, recording 73 saves and leading the Pac-12 with 14 shutouts. A Pac-12 All-Freshman, Brzykcy continued her collegiate career, dominating in the box, earning Pac-12 Goalkeeper of the Year (2020), second-team All-Pacific Regional and All-Pac-12 honors (2021-2022), first-team All-Pacific Region honors (2022).
DeMarco, 23, spent the last five seasons at Wake Forest University. A native from Gwynedd Valley, Penn., DeMarco appeared in 74 games (69 starts), tallying 11 goals and seven assists. The midfielder was selected for All-ACC Academic Team (2018, 2019 and 2021) and ACC All-Freshman Team (2018). In her final season at Wake Forest, DeMarco spent time as a defensive midfielder, central defender and forward, while recording four goals and two assists.
