San Diego Wave FC News Release
SAN DIEGO, Califf. - The National Women's Soccer League today announced that San Diego Wave FC defender Abby Dahlkemper has been named to the NWSL Team of the Month for August presented by Mastercard. In addition, Dahlkemper was also named Bud Light Player of the Week after scoring the Wave's opening goal against the Orlando Pride in Week 20.
Dahlkemper showcased her return to the NWSL with two starts and two solid performances on both ends of the ball. The center back recorded four blocks and a 100% passing success rate over 180 minutes of regular season play.
During the Wave's 2-1 victory on Saturday against the Pride, Dahlkemper scored her first goal of the season and the first non-penalty goal of her NWSL career (137 appearances). The strike came in the seventh minute against Orlando as midfielder Jaedyn Shaw served in a corner kick. A deflected shot fell to Dahlkemper who took a touch before firing a half volley that ricocheted off the top post and into the back of the net.
Currently sitting in third place, Dahlkemper and the San Diego Wave look to continue this winning momentum this weekend against the Houston Dash. The Wave hosts the Dash at Snapdragon Stadium on Sunday, Sept. 3, for the club's World Cup Welcome Back. Kickoff against the Dash is slated for 5:00 p.m. PT and tickets to the game are available here. The contest will also be streamed live on Paramount+.
