SOCKERS AND SURGE CONCLUDE SERIES

The San Diego Sockers (11-3) conclude their three-day, three-game road trip on Sunday afternoon with a 3pm matinee against the Sacramento Surge at McLellan Park's Jackson Sports Academy. Last night the Sockers prevailed in a 13-6 contest, preceded by a 10-3 win in Turlock on Friday night. After this afternoon's game the Sockers will have only two road games remaining, at Ontario on 2/12 and at Las Vegas on 2/13.

LAST GAME: SOCKERS 13, SURGE 6

Game one of the weekend series saw the Sockers jump out to leads of 5-0, 7-1 and 11-3 in an eventual 13-6 win over Sacramento. It was a day for the veterans, as forwards Kraig Chiles (three goals, assist) and Nick Perera (two goals, two assists) each recorded four-point games. Jeff Hughes added three goals and an assist out of the midfield while Chiky Luna and Eduardo Velez each collected a goal with two assists. Jesus "Chuy" Molina improved to 3-0 as the Sockers' backup keeper.

CHILES EXTENDS POINTS STREAK TO 59

The goals and points keep on coming for the Sockers captain, forward Kraig Chiles. According to MASL/PASL Stats, Sockers captain Kraig Chiles has recorded at least one point in 59 consecutive matches dating back to November 19 th, 2011 when he was held pointless in a 7-6 OT win against the Anaheim Bolts. The streak is the longest in PASL/MASL history. Kraig officially extended the streak with a second quarter assist on a Jeff Hughes goal, then went on to net a hat trick. Chiles has also managed a fourteen-game goals streak, having scored at least one goal in every Sockers game this season. In his past eight games Chiles has 26 goals, pushing his season total to 35, second-most in the MASL (Gordy Gurson (SEA/STL)-40, Lucas Totti (TEX)-30).

VETERANS REST EASY ON SATURDAY NIGHT

Head coach Phil Salvagio, who earned his 100th career coaching victory on Friday night and his 101st against the Surge on Saturday, has been juggling his lineup all weekend to keep veteran legs fresh. While Jeff Hughes sat out Friday night's game, on Saturday it was a day of rest for veteran defenders Dan Antoniuk and Evan McNeley, as well as midfielder Brian Farber and goalkeeper Chris Toth. All are available for action today as several veterans who played both Friday and Saturday could see a rest day in their future.

HUGHES WITH A HATTY

Midfielder Jeff Hughes is racking up the points in his second season with the San Diego Sockers. A four-point game on Saturday night included Hughes' second career hat trick in San Diego. He also scored three goals on January 18th, 2014 against the Bay Area Rosal. On the season Hughes has 25 points (13 goals, 12 assists) in 13 games played. In his past four starts Hughes has collected 14 points, including three four-point efforts.

ROOKIE DEBUT FOR EDGAR AGUILAR

In Saturday's contest, rookie Arman Nadjafi made his first career MASL start for the Sockers in midfield. Sunday afternoon, the honor will shift to Edgar Aguilar, who will make his pro debut against the Surge. Aguilar is a graduate of the Sockers' Open Tryout camps held in the summer, a former La Costa Canyon soccer standout who helped lead Palomar College to a pair of division titles during his two seasons there.

BACK IN THE LINEUP FOR "ISH"

Sockers defender Ismael Hernandez will make his second start on the back line for San Diego against the Surge. Hernandez was acquired in mid-January and has one start for the team, during an 8-3 win over the Tacoma Stars on January 16th. A Spaniard who moved from Madrid to join the team, Hernandez has previous pro indoor experience with the MISL Milwaukee Wave in 2012-13.
