San Diego Sockers 2 Media Release - San Diego 2 Powers Past Ontario

SAN DIEGO (Saturday, December 9, 2017 - #17- MR02) - The San Diego Sockers 2 (2-0) defeated the Ontario Fury II, 10-7, at the Upland Sports Center in Major Arena Soccer League 2 action. The Sockers 2 continue to lead the Western Conference.

San Diego jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first period on unassisted goals by Tim Liermann (2:30) and Andy Lorei (6:38). It was Liermann's first of the year and Lorei's fourth.

The Fury II cut their deficit in half when William Reygoza got one past Sockers 2 goalkeeper Jean Antione, who would finish the match making 10 saves to earn his second win of the season.

The Sockers scored three consecutive goals to extend their lead to 5-1 with 3:40 remaining in the second quarter. Lorei tallied his second of the contest off an assist from Chad Hagerty. Mike Mercuriali notched his first of two goals from an Evan Myers pass. Arman Nadjafi was given a helper by Lorei to score his first goal of the campaign. With one second left Mercuriali found the back of the net to give San Diego a 6-2 lead at the break.

Ontario made the best of the third quarter with a three-goal spree to come within 6-5, but a power-play goal by Lorei at 14:19 restored the Sockers 2 momentum into the fourth.

San Diego outscored Ontario in the final period to close out the Fury II, 10-7.

MASL 2 scoring and goal leader Lorei added his fourth goal (7th on the season), while Eli Galbraith-Knapp and Jared Hegardt notched the last two markers,

San Diego returns to Valley View Casino Center on Sunday, December 17, 1:05 p.m., for a game against the Arizona Impact.
