Tulsa Drillers News Release
The San Antonio Missions, who currently boast the best winning percentage in all of Minor League Baseball, concluded a dominant, three-game sweep of the Tulsa Drillers Tuesday night with an impressive 11-3 win at ONEOK Field.
The Missions padded their Double A leading home run total by homering five times in the win. In the 3-game sweep, San Antonio belted a total of 11 homers.
The game included a frightening moment in the top of the seventh inning when San Antonio's Beamer Weems was struck in the face by a pitch from Tulsa reliever Dustin Molleken. The Missions shortstop was able to get to his feet and leave the field under his own power, but he was transported by an ambulance to a local hospital for X-Rays and observation.
The two teams traded home runs early in the game. In the top half of the first, Blake Tekotte, who hit the game-winning homer in Monday night's game, belted his 11th of the year to give the Missions the early lead.
Tommy Field, who also homered the previous night, evened the score at 1-1 with his 12th of the season in the bottom of the inning. The opposite field shot landed in the Tulsa bullpen in right-center field.
San Antonio scored the game's next six runs to take control of the game. Daniel Robertson started the onslaught with a solo homer in the top of the third.
The Missions scored three more times in the fifth. Robertson drew a leadoff walk, advanced to third on a base hit by Tekotte and scored on ground out by Jaff Decker. Jedd Gyorko singled home Tekotte before scoring himself on a double by Anthony Contreras.
Tekotte struck again in the sixth to up the lead to six runs. Pitcher Juan Oramas led off with a single and came home on Tekotte's second homer of the night and his 12th of the season.
The Drillers ended the San Antonio streak of runs by scoring twice in the bottom of the sixth. Field struck out to lead off the inning, but reached base safely when the third strike got past catcher Eddy Rodriguez. After Ben Paulsen singled, Field scored on a strange play that included a wild pitch and a throwing error by first baseman Sawyer Carroll when both runners temporarily ended up at second base. Darin Holcomb followed with a double into right-center field to score Paulsen and trim the deficit to 7-3.
The Missions responded with three runs in the seventh before Contreras capped the scoring with a solo home run in the top of the ninth.
The sweep left the Drillers with a 2-4 record in the six-game homestand. They will travel to Corpus Christi on Wednesday and will begin a six-game road trip Thursday night against the Hooks. The pitching matchup in the opener will be Josh Sullivan (2-7, 6.27 ERA) for the Drillers against Ross Seaton (4-5, 5.62 ERA) of the Hooks. Starting time at Whataburger Field is scheduled for 7:05PM.
