San Antonio Missions game notes

August 25, 2005 - Texas League (TL1)
San Antonio Missions News Release

Last Night's Game: The Missions quest for the second half Western Division title slipped farther away from them as the Missions offense lacked any sort of assault. The team had only fi ve hits. Missions starter Jon Huber gave up only three runs in seven innings of work, but took his sixth loss of the season. The Missions now trail the Rock- Hounds by three games with only 11 remaining in the season. However, in the bizarre world of the Texas League this year the loss actually helped the Missions chances at making the play-offs as the magic number to eliminate the Corpus Christi Hooks from the post season shrunk to 8 last night. A combination of eight Midland wins or Corpus losses would get the Missions back into the Texas League play-offs. Today's Game : The Missions and Midland match-up in game three of the series tonight at Citibank ballpark at 7:00 pm. The Hooks and the Frisco RoughRiders take the fi eld in Frisco at 7:05 pm.

Starting Pitchers : For the Missions on the hill tonight will be RHP Juan Sandoval. Sandoval has been the Missions starter with the most success against the RockHounds this season with a 2-1 record and a 1.93 ERA. He is 0-1 with a 2.45 ERA in two starts at Citibank ballpark this season. In Sandoval's last three outings, he has a record of 1-2 with a 4.24 ERA. Sandoval has had a tough time this season with opponents in the fi rst inning with a whopping ERA of 7.54. Facing off against Sandoval for the fi rst time all season will be southpaw Drew Dickinson of the Midland RockHounds. Dickinson is 2-3 against the Missions this season with a 3.96 ERA overall and is 1-1 with a 3.72 ERA at Citibank versus the Missions. The left hander is 1-1 with a 7.47 ERA in his last three starts. Dickinson has struggled signifi cantly this season in the fi fth inning with a 9.82 ERA. Back 2 Back Losses: The Missions have only lost three or more games four different times this season. Following back 2 back losses the Missions are an amazing 14-4 against opponents.

Missions Kryptonite: Left handed pitchers have zapped all power away from Missions hitters this season giving up only 24 homeruns to them. Nelson Enjoying August: Missions Outfi elder is hitting .299 so far throught the month of August, a major improvement from the .149 he hit in the month of July.
