Tulsa Drillers News Release
The Tulsa Drillers offensive woes continued Thursday night in Springfield in the seventh game of an eight game road trip. The Drillers managed only seven hits and one run while dropping a 3-1 decision to the Cardinals.
Tulsa has now scored a total of only 14 runs during the first seven games of the road trip, while losing five of those games. Thursday's meager output wasted strong performances from Zack Parker and a pair of Drillers relievers. Tulsa has now scored one run in Parker's two most recent starts.
Springfield took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning on Thursday. With two outs, Shaun Boyd and Papo Bolivar hit back-to-back doubles to produce the game's first run.
The Drillers tied the game in the top of the sixth inning. Corey Slavik doubled and advanced to third on an error by right fielder Tyler Parker. Slavik later scored on a sacrifice fly by Joe Koshansky to even the score at 1-1.
The Cardinals quickly answered in the bottom of the sixth. After Travis Hanson led off with a single, Gabe Johnson laid down a bunt. Parker then hurt his own cause with an error when his throw to second was wide, putting Hanson at second and Johnson at first. After Tyler Parker bunted the runners to second and third, Ramon Ramirez relieved Parker and was met with a double by Brad Cresse that scored both Hanson and Johnson to give the Cards a 3-1 lead.
Cresse's double closed out the game's scoring as starter Chris Lambert gained the victory for Springfield to improve his record to 3-6. He allowed only the one run on five hits and one walk while striking out eight. A trio of Cardinals relievers blanked Tulsa over the final three innings.
Parker suffered the loss to even his record at 10-10. It is the lefthander's 8th loss in his last 9 decisions. Ramirez worked 2/3 of an inning and Jentry Beckstead two scoreless frames in relief of Parker.
Tulsa will play its final road game of the 2005 regular season Friday night in Springfield. Sandy Nin (9-5, 2.98 ERA) will take the mound for the Drillers against Stuart Pomeranz (4-6, 5.85 ERA) of the Cardinals. Starting time on Friday at Hammons Field will be 7:10PM.
