San Antonio FC News Release
SAN ANTONIO, TX - San Antonio FC (9-5-7) will travel to face Seattle Sounders FC 2 (4-14-2) at Cheney Stadium on Saturday, August 11 at 9 p.m. CT. The match marks the first of three consecutive games on the road for the club as they look to earn their fifth consecutive win to tie the longest winning streak in franchise history.
SAFC heads into the match after earning a 2-1 win against LA Galaxy II at home last weekend. The club is currently in sixth place in the Western Conference standings, just three points behind fifth-place Reno 1868 FC. The Alamo City club will look to build on their four-game winning streak as they visit Sounders FC 2, who are currently in 16th place in the standings and have won just once in their last eight matches.
San Antonio FC is 3-0-1 all-time against Sounders FC 2, earning two wins in their two away matches against the club. In each of their visits, SAFC has scored three goals against the the Sounders earning a 3-0 win in their inaugural match in April 2016 before earning a 3-2 win a year later on April 25, 2017.
For the Alamo City club, maintaining a high level of focus will be key as they head into the first of three away matches, two of which are over the span of just four days. During their current winning streak, the club has scored multiple goals in three of their victories, while recording a clean sheet in one of them.
"We need to stay together and keep working as a team," SAFC defender Darnell King said. "We want to make sure we stick to what we've been working on throughout the week and that everyone does their job properly. We all want to be on the same page because our upcoming games are very important, and we want to get these wins on the road."
King has proven to be a key for San Antonio this season for his attacking contributions as well as his defensive quality. The Florida native scored his first league goal for the club last weekend, adding to his team-leading five assists this season. On the attacking end, SAFC forward Ever Guzman will look to build on his run of good form. The Mexico native has scored three goals in his last three appearances and is now tied with midfielder Omar Gordon as leading scorer this season with four goals.
Following their match against the Sounders 2 on Saturday, SAFC will travel to face Portland Timbers 2 on Wednesday, August 15. As SAFC prepares to play two matches in the span of four days, squad depth will play an important role for Head Coach Darren Powell as the team looks to continue their winning ways.
"We have a very good squad and we're almost back to full health, so we can rely on a rotation if needed," Powell said. "The players are hungry and ready, and we will field the strongest squad we have available."
