San Antonio FC Travels to Face Phoenix Rising FC

SAN ANTONIO, TX - San Antonio FC (9-7-7) will travel to face Phoenix Rising FC (13-6-5) at Phoenix Rising FC Soccer Complex on Wednesday, August 22 at 9 p.m. CT. The match marks the first between the two clubs this season and the first of two in the span of four days for SAFC.

The Alamo City club will look to earn a win on the road after recording consecutive losses for the first time this season last week. SAFC is currently within a playoff spot as they sit in 8th place in the Western Conference standings, and will look to gain ground on 9th place Swope Park Rangers with a win.

"We've had seven days in between games to prepare for Phoenix," SAFC Head Coach Darren Powell said. "We've looked at how we want to attack and defend against them, and now it's up to us to make sure we're fully prepared and concentrated. We're looking forward to the challenge of playing there."

Phoenix Rising FC will look to capitalize on their momentum to earn a win at home. The club most recently earned a 2-0 win on the road at Las Vegas Lights FC on Saturday and currently sits in third place in the standings. Phoenix has scored an impressive 45 goals this season while conceding 28.

SAFC is 3-1-1 all-time against Phoenix, and earned a 1-0 win in each of their matchups last season. Scoring the first goal of the match will continue to be key for SAFC. All six of Phoenix's losses in 2018 have come when the club concedes the first goal of the match, while six of the Alamo City club's wins have come when they open the scoring.

Forward Ever Guzman and midfielder Omar Gordon will spearhead the SAFC attack with both players currently sitting on five goals each and tied for the club scoring lead this season. Guzman has scored in each of his last four starts, while Gordon will look to find the back of the net in back-to-back matches.

Following the match in Phoenix, SAFC will face a quick turnaround as they host Swope Park Rangers at Toyota Field on Saturday, August 25.

"It's great to have games come at us quickly during this time of the year," Powell said. "We're excited to play so many games over the course of the next month because we know how important each match is in terms of the points available and the competition we're up against. For us, having games in a short span of time is fun and it's going to test our squad to the fullest, so we want to make sure we're prepared."
