Pickens Finally Named to USL Team of the Week

August 21, 2018 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Nashville SC News Release

TAMPA - It took 58 saves, 11 shutouts and 23 weeks, but Nashville SC keeper Matt Pickens was finally named to the United Soccer League (USL) Team of the Week on Tuesday afternoon after an impressive shutout at Louisville City FC last Saturday night. The honor is Pickens first this season as he becomes the sixth Nashville SC player to garner a Team of the Week honor in 2018.

Pickens was a major reason that Nashville was able to pick up a crucial road result at the home of the defending USL Cup champs. He made five saves against Louisville, including two outstanding stops early in the second half to keep the game tied. He has allowed just one goal in three games since his return from injury at the beginning of August.

His 11 shutouts are tied for the second-most in the USL this year and his 58 total saves rank in the top-10 of the USL. The first-ever signing for Nashville SC in its inaugural season has been one of the reasons that Nashville appears primed for a trip to the playoffs in its first year as a pro franchise.

Pickens joins Liam Doyle, Bradley Bourgeois, Brandon Allen, Lebo Moloto and Alan Winn as Nashville players honored by the league with a weekly award.

Nashville SC returns home to First Tennessee Park on Saturday night at 7:30 p.m. to play Bethelhem Steel FC. Tickets are still available at NashvilleSC.com/tickets.
