OTTAWA - Ottawa Fury FC left-back Onua Obasi has been voted on the USL Team of the Week for Week 23. Obasi recorded three interceptions, won five of seven tackles and 16 of 27 duels, as Fury FC allowed only three shots on goal in back-to-back shutouts that garnered the club a win and a draw.

In his third season with Fury FC, Obasi has been a strong presence for the club's backline since joining in 2016. In 2018, Obasi has started 19 matches for Fury FC, winning over 63% of his duels and established himself as team leader in interceptions with 46 so far this season. His agility has also proved to be a great asset in supporting the attack from the left wing.

Obasi joined Fury after helping the Baltimore Blast capture the MASL championship in 2016. The dynamic left back also boasts of previous USL experience winning a championship with the Rochester Rhinos in 2015. The Birmingham, England native sustained an Achilles injury that saw him miss most of the Fall Season, but he completed the 2016 season with 15 games and over 1,000 minutes played. He played 25 games for Fury FC in the 2017 season, with 1,984 minutes of playing time. He scored two goals including one in Fury FC's first-ever game in the USL. He was able to produce a career best season despite missing nine matches due to injury. His passing accuracy of 81% was second only to goalkeeper Callum Irving making him a key cog in Ottawa's attacking game.

Obasi secures his second Team of the Week of the 2018 campaign (Week 10) and is the third Fury FC defender to receive the honour this year. Ottawa's goalkeeper Maxime Crépeau, who earned his 12th clean sheet of the season this past week, also gets the nod by making the bench of this Team of the Week selection.

Ottawa Fury FC will look to leverage the strong defensive core and team cohesion to grab more points in their playoff hunt as they head on the road to Bethlehem this Wednesday (KO 5:00 p.m.) before returning to TD Place on Saturday night in the club's Pride Game.
