July 5, 2016 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
San Antonio FC News Release
SAN ANTONIO - San Antonio FC midfielder Michael Reed has been named to the USL Team of the Week for his performance against Tulsa Roughnecks FC on July 3, the USL announced this afternoon. Reed scored his second goal in as many weeks to open the scoring for San Antonio en route to a 2-1 win.
SAFC midfielder Carlos Alvarez was also acknowledged for his performance against Tulsa, and was named to the USL Team of the Week Bench.
Reed's goal came from a San Antonio FC set piece after he headed home a cross from teammate Rafa Castillo early in the second half on Sunday. Reed also recorded three shots and played 90 minutes in the club's third straight victory.
Reed was also named the SWBC Man of the Match after scoring his second goal of the season. The midfielder has appeared in 12 matches, starting 10 and recording one assist. Reed joined the club prior to the season after spending 2015 with the now-defunct Atlanta Silverbacks (NASL).
Alvarez recorded his team-leading fourth assist on Sunday after he played a through-ball to SAFC forward Franck Tayou for what proved to be the winning goal against Roughnecks FC. Alvarez's four assists are tied for second-most in the USL this season.
With Reed's inclusion in the USL Team of the Week, he joins SAFC forwards Jacques Francois and Jason Johnson, midfielder Rafa Castillo and defenders Sam McBride, Stephen McCarthy and Milton Palacios who have earned such honors. Along with Alvarez, SAFC midfielder Danny Garcia and defender-forward Fejiro Okiomah have both been named to the USL Team of the Week Bench this year.
