San Antonio FC News Release
SAN ANTONIO, TX - San Antonio FC (5-4-5) fell 0-2 to Reno 1868 FC (6-3-7) at Toyota Field on Saturday night, marking just the second time the club has lost at home this season.
"They scored the goal in the first half and that gave them something to fight for," SAFC Head Coach Darren Powell said. "We had a fair amount of possession but not in dangerous areas, so that's something we need to work on."
Reno opened the scoring in the 27th minute after midfielder Jerry Van Ewijk converted from a free kick just outside the box that dinked off the crossbar and into the net for the 1-0 lead. The visitors then added a second goal in the 70th minute when forward Brian Brown found the end of a low cross from Antoine Hoppenot and beat goalkeeper Diego Restrepo with a tap-in.
The Alamo City club was unable to find the back of the net despite recording seven shots, three on target, and recording an 84 percent passing accuracy.
SAFC forward Ever Guzman made his first appearance since suffering an injury on April 27 at Las Vegas Lights FC. The forward played 14 minutes off the bench.
The match marked the end of a three-game home stand for SAFC during which the club earned six of a possible nine points, beating Portland Timbers 2 and Sacramento Republic FC prior to tonight's result.
San Antonio FC will return to USL action on Saturday, June 30 as they visit Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC before returning home to host OKC Energy FC on July 4 at Toyota Field.
