Phoenix Rising FC News Release
Phoenix Rising remained unbeaten in the month of June following a 0-0 draw with Rio Grande Valley FC. In the process, Phoenix Rising extended its unbeaten streak to five matches and shutout streak to 376 minutes. Goalkeeper Carl Wosczynski made one save in route to his fourth consecutive shutout.
Rising FC had few chances in the first half, but controlled the second half offensively. In the 57th minute, Chris Cortez had some space just outside the left corner of the penalty box and tried curling a shot inside the far right post, only to be denied by a diving one-handed save.
In the 71st minute, substitute Billy Forbes outraced his defender down the left flank of the field and fired a rocket at the target, but the goalkeeper made an easy grab. Four minutes later it was midfielder Gladson Awako with an opportunity thanks to a beautifully slotted pass from midfielder Solomon Asante, but the goalkeeper made a diving save to push the shot away and preserve the shutout.
Phoenix Rising returns home Friday night to square up with Orange County Soccer Club at 7:30 p.m. The first 3,000 fans will receive a blackout Shop On t-shirt courtesy of Valley Metro and it will also be $1 beer night presented by Bud Light. Fans can purchase tickets by heading to PHXRisingFC.com or visiting the club's box office at the stadium Monday through Friday, 9 am to 5 pm.
