July 3, 2018 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
San Antonio FC News Release
SAN ANTONIO, TX - San Antonio FC (5-4-6) will host OKC Energy FC (5-10-1) at Toyota Field on Wednesday, July 4 at Toyota Field. The match will kick off at 7:30 p.m. and will be broadcast on Fox Sports Southwest Plus. SAFC will also host a postgame firework show and $1 Drink Night in celebration of Independence Day.
The Alamo City club heads into the match after earning a 1-1 draw on the road against Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC thanks to a goal from all-time leading scorer Rafa Castillo. SAFC will now look to earn three points as they aim to earn their first-ever win against the Energy.
OKC will look to build on a three-game winning streak. The club is currently in a good run of form and sits in 13th place in the Western Conference standings after a difficult start to their season, earning just two wins in their first 13 matches.
"OKC is in a good run of form," SAFC Head Coach Darren Powell said. "They've earned some momentum in their last three games. Every game between San Antonio FC and OKC Energy FC has traditionally been a very tight matchup and we don't expect anything different heading into Wednesday. We're just looking forward to being back in front of our home fans."
SAFC is 0-1-5 all-time against the Energy, with three of their five matchups ending in 0-0 draws. The two clubs also met in the 2017 USL Playoffs Western Conference semifinals, where OKC beat the Alamo City club on penalties before being eliminated from the title race in their following match.
The match will be a $1 Drink Night presented by Bud Light. The club will also host a postgame fireworks show in celebration of Independence Day, as well as an 'Extra Time' postgame party that will feature games, live music, merchandise discounts, and more.
San Antonio FC will also debut its new third alternate jersey during the match, which was revealed on Tuesday.
