SAN ANTONIO, TX - San Antonio FC (9-5-7) beat LA Galaxy II (5-12-5) 2-1 at Toyota Field on Saturday night in front of 7,447 fans. Goals from defender Darnell King and forward Ever Guzman earned the club three points in their fourth consecutive win and propelled them to sixth place in the USL Western Conference standings.
"I thought we played well from start to finish," SAFC Head Coach Darren Powell said. "The commitment to get the ball was there and we scored two good goals, which were key moments in the game. We're all a bit disappointed that we conceded late and missed out on a shutout, but all in all it was a good performance, and everybody worked hard."
SAFC opened the scoring in the 20th minute when King found the ball at the top of the box following chaos inside the area. The defender ran up and hit a half-volley into the top-right corner past goalkeeper Eric Lopez for the 1-0 lead. The goal marks King's first for the club in USL play, adding to his team-leading five assists.
The Alamo City club extended their lead in the second half after Guzman found the end of a low cross from midfielder Ethan Bryant and finished from point-blank range to make it 2-0. The goal marks Guzman's fourth for the club and third in as many appearances. The Mexican is now tied for the team-lead in goals this season with midfielder Omar Gordon.
Los Dos managed to pull back a goal in stoppage time when forward Frank Lopez finished off a cross from midfielder Jonathan Hernandez, but were unable to find an equalizing goal.
The win marks the second-longest winning streak in franchise history for San Antonio FC. The club previously recorded five consecutive wins from April 15 - May 6, 2017. San Antonio FC will return to USL action on Saturday, August 11 as they visit Seattle Sounders 2 in the first of three consecutive matches on the road.
