Saltdogs to host local tryout camp April 14

LINCOLN, NEB. - The Lincoln Saltdogs announce plans to hold a tryout camp at Haymarket Park on Saturday, April 14 at 9 a.m. All participants are required to pre-register by going to www.saltdogs.com and clicking the registration link in the "Game Center" section. If prospects do not pre-register, there is no guarantee of participation. Check-in is at 8 a.m. on Saturday, April 14. The Lincoln Saltdogs coaching staff and front office will be scouting the camp that is open to all elgible players from the region.
The cost of the tryout is $40, which can be paid by cash, check, credit card or money order. Any players who are signed to a contract by the organization will have their registration money refunded. Payment must be received with the registration via fax (402-474-2254), e-mail (info@saltdogs.com), mail or in-person at the Saltdogs office at Haymarket Park (403 Line Drive Circle, Suite A, Lincoln, NE 68508).
In order to participate in the camp, players must have prior professional baseball playing experience or have played at least two years of college baseball at a NCAA, NAIA or NJCAA school within the last two years. If participants do not meet these requirements, they are not eligible. All registrations are screened and the registration fee will not be refunded if eligibility standards are not met.

The Lincoln Saltdogs play a 96-game schedule in the American Association of Independent Professional Baseball. Their 2007 season opens May 10 at Pensacola. The league consists of the following ten teams: North Division- Lincoln Saltdogs, St. Joe Blacksnakes, St. Paul Saints, Sioux City Explorers, and Sioux Falls Canaries; South Division-Coastal Bend Aviators (Robstown, Texas), El Paso Diablos, Fort Worth Cats, Pensacola Pelicans, and Shreveport Sports.
SALTDOGS SIGN PAIR
At the recently conducted American Association tryout camp and draft in Fort Worth, Texas, the Saltdogs selected catcher Zach Goldberg. A native of Wichita, Kan., Goldberg played collegiately at Iowa Western Community College and then transferred to the University of St. Thomas (Minn.). Goldberg was the 2005 All-Conference catcher in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference while playing for the Toms, who won the league title that year. In 2006, he finished his college career by hitting .329 with four homeruns and 21 RBI.
Lincoln also added to its pitching staff with the signing of RHP Jared Eichelberger, the son of former Major League pitcher Juan Eichelberger. The 6-8, 235-pound native of Poway, Calif., began his college career at Cal State-Fullerton and then transferred to Cal State-San Bernardino, where he was named the Coyotes' Male Scholar Athlete-of-the-Year as a senior in 2004-05. He signed with the New York Mets organization as a free agent later that year and then spent 2006 in the Seattle Mariners system. His father, Juan, was a No. 1 pick (19th overall) of the San Diego Padres in 1975. He went on to pitch seven seasons in the Major Leagues with the Padres, Cleveland Indians and Atlanta Braves.
