Kane County Cougars News Release

GENEVA, Ill. - A five-run 3rd inning made the difference in the Kane County Cougars' (8-7) second straight loss to the Lincoln Saltdogs (8-6). Lincoln's 8-3 win Thursday night handed the Cougars their third straight series loss at Northwestern Medicine Field.

Josh Allen's RBI single in the 1st inning to give the Cougars the lead wasn't a factor once Lincoln brought 10 batters to the plate against Vance Worley (1-2) in the 3rd inning for a five-run outburst. Worley was one out away from working out of inning, but David Vidal's two-run double and Ryan Long's RBI hit kept the line moving.

Worley settled in after the third, retiring the next 11 batters he faced, but Lincoln tacked on another run in the 7th. Both teams exchanged two-run homers in the 9th inning. Forrest Allday went deep for Lincoln as Jeffrey Baez connected on his second home run of the homestand for the final runs of the game.

Saltdog starter Walter Borkovich (1-1) worked seven innings of one-run baseball for his first win of the year. Reliever Christian DeLeon had three strikeouts in his Cougar debut.

The Cougars now focus their attention on the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks for a three-game series to end the homestand. Former Cougar Brent Jones will take the mound for the Redhawks against the Cougars' left-hander Josh Tols. First pitch from Northwestern Medicine Field is scheduled for 6:30.
