Lincoln Saltdogs News Release
LINCOLN, NE - The Lincoln Saltdogs signed rookie infielder Todd Sandell on Tuesday, making him the third player to ink his name on a 2010 contract. Sandell will look to make his professional debut this season.
The California native played four years of college baseball at Fresno State, from 2005 through 2008. He made several starts at second base as a freshman, and at third base as a sophomore, although injuries cut both of those seasons short. Todd's best college season came as a junior in 2007, when he served as the Bulldogs' starting shortstop. Injuries, however, cut his senior season short as well, and Sandell did not play in 2009. Now healthy, he hopes to jumpstart his career in 2010.
"Todd's a rookie with some upside," said Saltdogs manager Marty Scott. "He can play anywhere on the infield, and he's a good gap hitter at the plate. We'll have some serious competition in spring training this season, and we'll give him every chance to prove himself."
The Saltdogs expect to announce more signings over the next couple of weeks, including the return of several key players from the 2009 championship squad.
Season Ten of Saltdogs Baseball begins on May 13 in Sioux Falls, with the home opener scheduled for May 25 against Wichita. For more team and ticket information, go to www.saltdogs.com.
