Saltdogs Hire Michael Dixon as Director of Broadcasting

February 20, 2019 - American Association (AA) - Lincoln Saltdogs News Release

LINCOLN, Neb. - The Lincoln Saltdogs have hired Michael Dixon as director of broadcasting, the club has announced.

Dixon, 23, brings American Association experience with him, having spent the previous two seasons in a similar role with the Cleburne Railroaders.

"I can't wait to get started in Lincoln," Dixon said. "It's a fantastic opportunity to work for an A-plus organization where I attended college. I'm thrilled to move back to Nebraska, this time as a professional broadcaster."

Born and raised in Texas, Michael attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln from 2013-2017, earning a bachelor's degree in broadcast journalism while calling Huskers games in several sports for KRNU and the Big Ten Network.

Michael is familiar with the Saltdogs as well, having worked as a part-time board operator and studio host for them after his freshman year at UNL in 2014.

He also did high school football and basketball play-by-play and color commentary for Lincoln Metro Sports. A year before graduating from UNL, Michael was in North Carolina as the play-by-play voice of the Coastal Plain League's Forest City Owls, a collegiate summer team.

Michael joined Cleburne for the franchise's debut in 2017, helping build the media relations and social media departments.

"We are excited to have Michael join the Saltdogs organization for the 2019 season," said Saltdogs President/GM Charlie Meyer. "Michael's past broadcasting experience as well as his American Association baseball experience the last two seasons make him a great addition to the Saltdogs organization."

Before his broadcasting career took hold, Michael was an orientation leader for new students at UNL and spent two years covering football, basketball and baseball for the Daily Nebraskan. While helping the Saltdogs five summers ago, Michael was a newsroom intern for KFOR 1240.

While living in his hometown of Fort Worth, Texas, and working for Cleburne, Michael did play-by-play for the Grandview High School boys basketball team, a state tournament qualifier in 2018.

The Saltdogs begin their 19th season on May 16th at the Sioux City Explorers. The team opens the 2019 home schedule at Haymarket Park on Thursday, May 23rd. For more information on the 'Dogs, follow the team on Facebook and on Twitter/Instagram @saltdogsball.
