Lincoln Saltdogs News Release

KANSAS CITY, KS - The Lincoln Saltdogs jumped out early and often in their exhibition game against Kansas City, scoring six runs in the first two innings and cruising to an 8-1 victory over the T-Bones. The win improves Lincoln's exhibition record to 2-3, and makes them 1-0 in the 2008 Northern League/American Association Challenge.

The table-setters made things happen for the Dogs in each of the first two innings. Jonny Kaplan led off the game with a home run down the left field line. Corey Harrington then doubled, stole third, and scored on a Dustin Yount single. Kaplan added an RBI single in Lincoln's four-run second inning, and scored on Harrington's two-run double. Overall, Kaplan and Harrington each went 3-for-5 with 2 runs and 2 RBI. Dustin Yount also played well, going 2-for-4 with 2 RBI.

On the mound, Saltdogs pitching rendered Kansas City powerless, holding the T-Bones to just three hits. Vince Davis (1-0) made an effective preseason start for Lincoln, holding Kansas City hitless over three innings. The lefty from Chicago struck out five and walked one before giving way to the Saltdogs bullpen. Jarrett Gardner, who's expected to start the season opener on May 8th, struck out six and allowed just two hits in his four innings on the mound.

Lincoln takes on the Fargo-Moorehead Redhawks on Sunday at noon, in their final game of the 2008 Northern League/American Association Challenge. The Saltdogs then play their final exhibition game of the preseason on Tuesday at Shreveport.
