Lincoln Saltdogs News Release
SIOUX FALLS, SD - The Lincoln Saltdogs suffered their second loss of the season on Friday, falling 6-1 at Sioux Falls. Lincoln falls to 0-2 for the first time since 2008.
The Lincoln bats were held in check for the second straight night, this time by Sioux Falls starter Chris Salberg (1-0). The Saltdogs loaded the bases with nobody out in the third inning, but could only manage a sacrifice fly by Phil Hawke. Lincoln also had leadoff doubles in the first and sixth innings, but failed to score both times.
The Pheasants, meanwhile, got to Lincoln starter Chris Britton (0-1) in the first inning, with an RBI single by Reggie Abercrombie and a sacrifice fly by Brandon Sing. Britton pitched well after that, allowing just one more run and pitching six innings to notch a quality start.
For the second straight night, the Pheasants broke open a close game in the eighth inning. With a man on and two out, Trevor Lawhorn deposited a two-run homer into the short porch down the left field line. Eddy Rodriguez followed with a solo shot to set the final margin.
Hawke's RBI in the third inning gives him three on the season. Juan Richardson and Brandon Jones each had two hits apiece for Lincoln.
The two teams play game three of their four-game series Saturday night at 7:05. Right-hander Tim Brown will take the mound for the Saltdogs.
The home opener for Season Ten of Saltdogs Baseball takes place May 25 against Wichita. For more team and ticket information, go to www.saltdogs.com.
