Saltdogs Announce 2010 Schedule

LINCOLN, NE - Season Ten of Lincoln Saltdogs baseball gets underway on Thursday, May 13th, 2010. The organization announced its 96-game schedule this week, including a 48-game home schedule that begins on Tuesday, May 25th.
The Saltdogs begin the defense of last season's championship with a four-game series at the Sioux Falls Canaries, May 13th through the 16th, a series that matches up the last two American Association champions. After that, Lincoln continues its opening ten-day road trip with a three-game set at longtime rival St. Paul, and then three games at two-time champion Fort Worth.
The home schedule begins on May 25th with a six-game homestand. The Saltdogs will raise the 2009 American Association championship banner that night, as they welcome the Wichita Wingnuts to Haymarket Park. Wichita had the league's best record in 2009, and won the first-half North Division title before falling to Lincoln in the division series. The Saltdogs also host South Division foe El Paso in the opening homestand.
For the second consecutive season, the Saltdogs will play at home on the 4th of July. Lincoln hosts Pensacola in a four-game series that concludes on Sunday, July 4th, in a rematch of last season's American Association Championship Series. The Saltdogs expect to coordinate some of their efforts on that day with the celebration held by the city of Lincoln.
"Baseball is still the national pastime, and there's nothing quite like going out to the ballgame on the 4th of July," said Saltdogs general manager Tim Utrup. "We're excited to have the opportunity to play at home on Independence Day weekend again, and we're looking forward to contributing our part to a great 4th of July in the city."
In all, Saltdogs fans will see Lincoln battle seven different opponents at Haymarket Park this season, including three series each against North Division rivals Sioux City, Sioux Falls and Wichita, and a pair of series against South Division opponent Shreveport-Bossier. The road schedule features a four-game series at Grand Prairie in June, marking the first time ever that the Saltdogs will play at QuikTrip Park.
