Saltdogs Add Pitcher, Catcher to Roster
LINCOLN, Neb. - The Saltdogs have added P David Palladino and C Corey Bass to the roster, the club has announced.
Both Palladino and Bass carry multiple seasons of affiliated minor league experience with them into 2019. The club also dealt OF Trevor Sealey to the Windy City Thunderbolts to complete an earlier trade between the two teams.
Palladino, who was acquired in a trade with the Texas AirHogs in exchange for RHP Travis Ballew, is a former 5th-round pick of the New York Yankees in the 2013 MLB Draft. The 6-8 right-hander is 26-22 with a 3.88 ERA in his six-year professional career.
Palladino began his independent career last year with the Rockland Boulders of the Can-Am League, where he went 5-2 with a 2.92 ERA in 20 appearances and 12 starts - the 6th-best ERA among qualified starting pitchers in the league.
The Emerson, NJ native spent 2013-2017 in the Yankees organization, reaching High-A Tampa for two appearances in 2017. In his affiliated career, Palladino is 21-20 with a 4.10 ERA.
Palladino was originally selected out of Howard College in the 13th-round by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 2011 MLB Draft.
The 'Dogs also signed C Corey Bass to his second American Association contract after two successful seasons in the Frontier League with Windy City.
Bass, who has two prior stints in affiliated baseball, owns a career .239/.338/.358 slashline with 17 homers and 102 RBI in five seasons of pro baseball.
A 20th-round pick of the Philadelphia Phillies out of the University of North Florida in 2013, Bass spent two seasons in the Phillies system and made six appearances with High-A Jupiter in the Marlins organization in 2017.
The Orlando native posted a .256/.359/.459 line with 11 homers and 42 RBI - all career highs - during an 80-game stint with Windy City in 2016. He returned again for the 2017 season and finished with four more homers and 25 more RBI.
Bass also played with Amarillo during the 2015 season.
