Lincoln Saltdogs News Release

SIOUX CITY, IA - The Lincoln Saltdogs cruised to an easy victory in Sioux City on Friday, winning 8-3. Lincoln improves to 34-25, 5-6 in the second half.

Saltdogs starter Jim Paduch (5-4) beat the Explorers for the first time this season, allowing just one run on eight hits over seven innings while striking out six. Sioux City had at least one runner on base in each inning except the ninth, but Paduch never got into any serious trouble while earning his fifth win of the season.

The Lincoln offense, meanwhile, went to work in the second inning against Sioux City starter Mikael Ryder (6-5). Juan Camacho led off the frame with an opposite-field home run to left, Pat Trettel followed with a single, and Brandon Jones crushed a two-run homer to give the Saltdogs a 3-0 lead. The X's got one run back in the third, but an error to start the top of the fourth opened the door for Lincoln to score three unearned runs. Rafael Alvarez, Phil Hawke and Camacho all had RBI singles in the inning. The 'Dogs added a run in the sixth on a Camacho sacrifice fly, and a Gavin Dickey RBI groundout in the seventh made it 8-1. Sioux City came up with a two-run home run in the eighth to pull a little closer, but Lincoln held on for the five-run win.

Camacho finished 2-for-4 with three RBI. Hawke, Trettel, Vance Albitz and Argelis Nunez all had two hits on the night as well. Nunez, however, had to leave the game in the eighth inning after being hit in the helmet by a pitch.

The two teams play game two of their four-game series Saturday night at 7:05pm. Right-hander Noel Baca will make the start for the Saltdogs.
