Salmon Kings Claim Billsten

Victoria, BC - The Victoria Salmon Kings, proud affiliate of the Vancouver Canucks and Manitoba Moose, announced today that the team has claimed forward Curtis Billsten off of waivers.

Billsten began the season with the Idaho Steelheads where he played in two games before the team placed him on waivers.

The Calgary, AB native spent last season with the University of British Columbia Thunderbirds. During his only year at UBC he played in 27 games and accumulated 25 points (14g-11a) while garnering 59 minutes in penalties.

Prior to his time at UBC, the 22-year-old spent parts of five seasons in the WHL and competed for four teams (Kootenay, Lethbridge, Everett and Red Deer). Over his career he played in 279 games collecting 156 points (67g-89a) and 275 minutes in penalties.

His most productive year in the WHL was during his 20-year-old season with Kootenay (2006-07). That year he played in 70 games notching 24 goals and 40 assists for 64 points while earning a +16 rating.

Prior to playing in the WHL the 6-3, 220lb Billsten played part of a season with the Calgary Royals of the AJHL before joining the Red Deer Rebels. While with the Royals he played in 46 games and scored 11 goals and picked up 10 assists for 21 points.

The Salmon Kings last waiver claim occurred last season on November 2nd when the team acquired Chris St. Jacques off the waiver wire from the Stockton Thunder.

The Salmon Kings welcome the Utah Grizzlies to the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre for a three game set beginning on tonight at 7:05 p.m. These two teams met last season in the National Conference Semi-Finals. The two remaining games go Friday and Saturday nights with puck drop also at 7:05 p.m. Tickets are still available call 250-220-7777.
