Peterson Assigned From AHL Grand Rapids

PHOENIX, Ariz. - The Phoenix RoadRunners of the ECHL, a proud affiliate of the San Jose Sharks and the Worcester Sharks, announced today that veteran defenseman Brett Peterson has been assigned to the club from Grand Rapids of the American Hockey League, center Andrew Desjardins has been recalled to Worcester of the American Hockey League, and defenseman Tom Sawatske has been traded to the Cincinnati Cyclones in exchange for future considerations.

Peterson, 27, signed a free agent contract with Grand Rapids on Sep. 5 after collecting four goals and 14 points and 101 penalty minutes in 69 games last season with the Florida Everblades. The Northborough, Mass. native and fifth-year professional appeared in two games earlier this year with the Flint Generals of the International Hockey League where he notched a goal and recorded two penalty minutes.

Peterson has spent the majority of his professional career in the ECHL skating with Atlantic City, Johnstown, and Florida. The former Boston College defenseman has registered 21 goals, 53 assists, and 334 penalty minutes in 278 ECHL games.

Desjardins, 22, notched two goals and six penalty minutes in five games with the RoadRunners. The Lively, Ontario native and second-year professional signed an AHL-ECHL two-way contract with the Sharks after posting 22 goals and 59 points in 64 games in 2007-08 with the Laredo Bucks of the Central Hockey League.

Sawatske, 24, did not record a point in five games with the RoadRunners. The Duluth, Minn. native and second-year professional was acquired by the RoadRunners along with defenseman Taylor Christie on Feb. 6, 2008 in exchange for center Scott Kelman. Sawatske scored a goal and added four assists in 18 games last season with the RoadRunners and finished his rookie campaign with three goals and 10 points in 57 games.
