Salem Completes Sweep of Mudcats

SALEM, VA - The Salem Red Sox once again raced to a big lead, and swept the three game series with the Carolina Mudcats at LewisGale Field on Sunday. Salem (12-9) won 8-3 in front of 2,106 for their fifth straight. The Mudcats fall to 10-12.
Salem got a quality start from Keith Couch (3-1) who tossed six-and-a-third innings. He allowed two unearned runs on four hits, striking out five.
Mudcats' starter Michael Goodnight (1-1) took the loss after giving up six runs (three earned) on five hits in three innings of work.
Salem built the lead slowly over six innings. The Red Sox struck for two runs in the first and one in the second for a 3-0 lead. Goodnight was chased from the game when Salem scored three in the fourth inning, and added two more in the sixth.
The Red Sox were paced by Drew Hedman who drove in three runs. Sean Coyle had three hits, and Jackie Bradley Jr. and Brandon Jacobs had two hits each. Carolina got two runs to give the hook to Couch in the seventh. Jesus Aguilar launched a solo home run in the ninth to round out the scoring.
Salem wreaked havoc on the base paths. The team stole six bases, and 14 for the series.
