NEWS & NOTES:
- Last Time Out - Salem received another quality start, this time from Ryan Pressly. The right-hander held Carolina to two runs over six innings in a 3-2 win. Tyler Holt paced the Mudcats with a 2x3 night.
- Road Weary - The Mudcats are in the midst of their second road trip of the season, a seven-game excursion through the Commonwealth of Virginia. The Mudcats are 2-6 away from Five County Stadium. Carolina is 8-5 at home with a .298 batting average, but the club is only hitting .183 on the road. The team is averaging six runs at home as opposed to only two on the road.
- First Blood - The Mudcats are 7-1 when scoring first. In contrast, the team is only 3-10 when the opponent strikes the first blow. Salem has scored the first run in both games this weekend.
- Strong Arm - Right-hander Shawn Armstrong has been lights out since his promotion from A-Lake County. The New Bern, NC, native has appeared in five games, and totaled 11.1 consecutive scoreless innings. He has struck out 15 and scattered five hits.
- Mr. Consistency - Outfielder Tyler Holt extended his hitting streak to seven with a 2x3 night against Salem. The Gainesville, FL, native has raised the average to .361, good for 6th best in the Carolina League. He is batting .428 (12x28) during this streak. Five of the seven games are multi-hit efforts. The streak ties Jake Lowery for the longest of the season by a Mudcat.
