HOLLY SPRINGS, N.C. - Strikeouts have been the Holly Springs Salamanders kryptonite all season. They have nearly 30 more strikeouts than their opponents this season.
They only struck out tonight 4 times and jumped all over the Lexington County Blowfish for a 16-2 win.
The Blowfish started fast in the first, with a Chas McCormick (Millersville) infield single followed by a Jordan Wren (Georgia Southern) RBI double to give Lexington County the early 1-0 lead.
Holly Springs struck right back in the home half of the first plating four of their own. Two Salamanders same into score on the two run bomb from Dillon Stewart (UNC Greensboro) and Cody Roberts (North Carolina) brought in two with his double later in the inning.
In the fourth, Danny Sheehan (San Diego State University) and Stewart knocked back-to-back jacks over the left field wall extending the Salamander lead.
Holly Springs went on to score 10 more runs throughout the remainder of the ballgame adding 7 of those in the bottom of the eighth with the help of the Ben Calvano (Campbell) Grand Slam.
Lexington County added a run in the ninth when McCormick brought Steve Sada (Miami, OH) home via the sacrifice fly after Sada tripled in the left center field alley. In the end the final score read 16-2
The Blowfish have the day off tomorrow before prepping for their final game of the road trip against the HiToms on Thursday. Coverage on z93.1 FM The Lake begins at 6:50 p.m. and first pitch is slated just around 7 p.m. from Finch Field.
