Late-Inning Rally Sinks Clams

EDENTON, NC - The Edenton Steamers were outscored 6-2 over final three innings as the Lexington County Blowfish took the game by a final count of 6-3 on Monday night. Edenton (9-15) lost its seventh consecutive home game, while Lexington County (15-10) has won back-to-back games on the road.

Randy Dobnak shouldered the loss for the Steamers. Dobnak (2-2) allowed two runs on four hits in one inning. Andrew Hinckley gave the Clams their first quality start of the summer, shutting out the Blowfish on three hits with two walks and eight strikeouts through six innings.

Tyler Norris earned the win for Lexington County. Norris (1-0) held the Steamers to one run on three hits while walking one and fanning nine in seven innings of work.

The Teal and Black drew first blood with a run in the bottom of the first. Aaron Aucker led off with a double, moving to third on a Bobby Schuman flyout to right. The Clams third baseman came home on a wild pitch two at bats later.

The starting pitchers shut things down through six innings, but Lexington County broke through in the top of the seventh with a two-out rally. The Blowfish connected for four consecutive singles to bring in two runs and take the lead.

After a scoreless eighth, Lexington County put things away with four runs in the ninth. Nick Blanchard reached on a throwing error by pitcher Drew Faintich, moving around to third on Brandon Johnson's double. Two batters later, Bennette Hill plated two runs with a single to right-center, and Brett Auckland finished the scoring off with two-run homer.

The Steamers attempted a rally in the bottom of the inning. Tony Rosselli led off with a single, and Trey Hair plated the final two runs with a shot to center to bring the score to 6-3.

The Edenton Steamers return to action in Morehead City on Wednesday night. The Clams are back at Historic Hicks Field on Friday, when they host the Peninsula Pilots at 7 p.m. For more information, fans can call (252) 482-4080 or visit edentonsteamers.com.
